It's time to polish up your dancing shoes to celebrate WRFG's 30th Annual Labor Day Blues Barbecue! Join us for an afternoon of earth-shaking blues music on the patio at the Park Tavern, overlooking beautiful Piedmont Park. As always, it's on Labor Day - Monday, September 7th.
This year's line-up includes:
The legendary Albert White as our honoree - backed by Chickenshack!
James Armstrong from the Windy City of Chicago!
The soul-stirring Lola!
Atlanta's representatives in the 2015 International Blues Challenge: Blind Cadillac and JP Blues!
Doors open at 12:30 and the music fires up at 1:00 PM. The Park Tavern is at the corner of Tenth Street and Monroe Drive.
Tickets are $20 at the door and $15 for advance tickets. Kids under 12 are free. Barbecue by Fat Matt's Rib Shack will be available for purchase.
All proceeds benefit Atlanta's only community radio station, WRFG Atlanta 89.3 FM.
See you on Labor Day!
Funding for this event is brought to you in part by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, under the guidance of the Fulton County Arts Council, and by the Atlanta Blues Society and Northside Tavern.
WRFG 89.3 FM is Your Voice, Your Station!
We are in immediate need of funds to catch up on our tower rent.
Without a tower, we can't broadcast.
The new tower owner has given us an opportunity to get current, and we need to do so as quickly as possible.
In addition, your donations will help us to embark on a path to retire about $40,000 in additional debt.
WRFG 89.3 FM is the only independent, non-profit, community radio station in Georgia. Dedicated to providing unique programming that reflects progressive perspectives and the diversity of people, ideas, and cultural expressions that embody that spirit, WRFG is a breath of fresh air on the radio dial.
We are campaigning to keep our independent station on the air and your donation can help. We hope you will consider a donation of $100 or more. Contributions at that level will make a substantial difference in how quickly we can reach our goal of $40,000. But any amount that you can give will help. You can send a check to WRFG at 1083 Austin Avenue NE, Atlanta 30307, or you can pay securely by credit card on our web site at www.wrfg.org. Your donation is 100% tax deductible. As a token of the love that you have for the values, issues, and hand-picked music that characterize WRFG, we're asking you to make your donation by end of February (it's a much better investment than candy or a card!).
WRFG has been doing progressive, innovative, diverse, and unique radio for a long time. We have a four decade-long tradition of being a consistent voice for positive social change and cultural expression. After all these years, it's still a tradition that gives us purpose and motivation every day. Your financial contribution is a tremendous boost not just to WRFG but also for the cause of progressive, independent radio everywhere. We look forward to and thank you for your support.
Since 1973, WRFG has been broadcasting an invigorating mix of programming that has made us a favorite among discerning listeners:
Hand-Picked Music that spans the cultural heritage of America and, in particular, the South - Zydeco, Blues, Jazz, Celtic, Folk, Caribbean, Indian, R&B, Latin, Bluegrass, Hip Hop, African
Public Affairs that address topics of concern to us all - health and nutrition, the environment, peace and justice, gender issues, the economy, the workplace
News from around the world and around the neighborhood that tends to get ignored or shortchanged in other media outlets - locally-produced shows along with national programs like Democracy Now!
WRFG operates at the maximum broadcast power of 100,000 watts and reaches thirteen Georgia counties within a 100-mile radius of its transmitter tower. We also stream worldwide at www.wrfg.org.
In order to remain independent, financially stable, and relevant to the needs of the community, WRFG 89.3 FM relies on the continuing support of people who understand the power of noncommercial community radio - which is why we're asking you to make a generous contribution today.
This support keeps us your voice, your station, and, as a popular poster reads, "untouched by the sweaty little hand of commercial greed."
Thanks so much for your love and support of community radio!
