BACKGROUND
(cont)
Another more recent
development has accentuated the need for the station to move its antenna.
As a 100,000 watt station and under the new FCC regulations, WRFG is
emitting too much radiation at its present site. To remain at full power
the station would need to build a fence that would extend to the middle
of Fair Street in southwest Atlanta, which, of course, is not realistic.
This has required the station to lower its transmission power to 70%
of its capacity. WRFG is presently under an FCC temporary permit to
broadcast at this lowered power and the only way it can resume to full
power is when the antenna is moved to the new site.
