The Community Sessions team is happy to announce our annual alumni show happening on Sunday, October 25th starting at 4:00 pm in the Harlon Joye Community Room in the Little 5 Points Community Center. Our performers will be Kate Coleman (Run Katie Run), Hannah Murphy and Roger “Hurricane” Wilson. We’ll hope you’ll come out to support live music and the GA artists who make it in an intimate performance of singer/songwriters in the round.
Kate Coleman – is the lead singer for the Atlanta band Run Katie Run which describe themselves as a roots rock band that sounds like the Grateful Dead and the Dixie Chicks combined into one entity. Kate has a distinctive singing voice which prompted one blogger to proclaim – “If you ever wondered what Janis Joplin would have sounded like doing country, the answer may be in Kate Coleman”.
Hannah Murphy – has been dubbed Georgia’s songbird of folk and blues. She draws her inspiration from her southern roots and legendary folk artists such as Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen and incorporates elements of bluegrass, jazz and classic folk into her storytelling.
Roger “Hurricane” Wilson – is known for his guitar driven blues rock, intricate finger picking style and emotional songwriting. He has shared the stage with the notable artists such as B.B. King, Buddy Guy. Hubert Sumlin, Jorma Kaukonen, Charlie Musselwhite and many more. Roger has released 33 albums and also works as a music educator and radio DJ.
