World Rhythm Nation is the Monday edition of Global Drumbeat, where we take listeners “around the world in 120 minutes”. We are an all female team of producers and engineers, spinning tunes from everywhere in the globe; from Canada to Colombia; from Nigeria to Australia; from the USA to the Caribbean, and all around the world, interviewing guests and presenting educational clips on a wide variety of topics to inform, inspire, and empower our listeners. Katia, Akure & Amanda are the most recent crew to cover this longstanding show on WRFG. Prior hosts include Ahzjah Netjer & Glen Simons, among others.
Kathleen Cooley, aka Katia Kool, joined WRFG in December, 2015. Her first show was a public affairs program, The Press KIT, where she and 2 other air shifters (Inga O and Tiffany Reddick) discussed current events and conducted interviews on Fridays, 12-1. She was later awarded a late night slot on WRFG’s Nightwatch, Museday MashUp Mixer, a hybrid music and talk show airing Monday night/Tuesday mornings from 12-3 am. After a few years of producing and broadcasting Museday MashUP Mixer, Katia was invited by Ahzjah, the World Empress, to join the crew of World Rhythm Nation, another hybrid show, airing Mondays, 2-4 pm.
Ahzjah dubbed Katia, “The Global Selectress” and although Ahzjah no longer hosts the long running World Rhythm Nation, Katia has had the pleasure of hosting and producing World Rhythm Nation, for several years, joined first by Akure, and now Ámándá Bonilla.
Katia has served one term on the WRFG Board of Directors, and 2 terms on the WRFG Operations Committee.
Ámándá Bonilla is a queer Latina movement artist, choreographer, storyteller, cultural events producer and social justice warrior. An overall rebel with a cause, she believes in the transformative power of collective joy and intentional rest to restore and heal our communities.
