What the Folk?! is a topical and broadside music spectacle on the second and fourth Tuesday from 8-10pm. For almost 42 years, Mark has been curating this show, taking an absence here and there to get some education. The program is frequently political and unabashedly diversified and inclusive. However, controversial topics are not avoided, especially when it comes to culture, politics, and justice. Mark’s relationship of many years with Pete Seeger, who provided him a guidepost on how to try and make a difference in life, has also been an inspiration for what works on the program. Interviews are also occasionally a component of the show. One of the most meaningful ones was with Representative John Lewis who was asked to be a guest DJ and chose music he listened to when he marched with Dr. King. It isn’t music you can dance to. It is music to make you think, get you activated, and inspired.

Mark’s day job is a clinical psychologist. He was a fellow at University of Pennsylvania and the original Center for Cognitive Therapy directed by Aaron T. Beck, M.D. He is board certified and a founding fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. His website is http://www.cognitiveatlanta.com. He consults for Social Security Disability in California and sees patients online. But being in radio goes back to high school and college. In 1974, Mark was the manager of WRAS FM at Georgia State University. His tenure at WRFG goes back to 1976 and the only person who may have been with Radio Free Georgia longer is the legendary Harlon Joye.
